6. Allocation Questions

The final type of questions is distinct from all the others. We SHL Guru team often refer to these as “Allocation Questions” since they typically require you to allocate varying levels of something among individuals or items based on specific criteria. Typically, you can expect to encounter one question of this type in a test, although occasionally there may be none. OK, without further ado, let’s take a look at the example below:

This is the typical allocation question: two criteria for four individuals. One thing to note is that they have to meet both criteria: e.g., Alex has great increase in client visits by 25%, but sales increase by less than 10%, so he has no award.

  • Alex: Client Visit (750-600)/600=25%; Sales (160-150)/150=7%. No Award
  • Bob: Client Visit (580-500)/500=16%; Sales (120-95)/95=26%. Gold
  • Chris: Client Visit (700-600)/600=17%; Sales (78-65)/65=20%. Gold
  • David: Client Visit (525-475)475=11%; Sales (140-120)/120=17%. Silver
