5. Line Chart Questions

The line chart questions may be the easiest questions in SHL numerical reasoning tests, although around one out of ten of them may involve harder calculations. Normally you can expect one line chart questions in a test, and if lucky, you may have two. You will be given several numbers to calculate the percentage or numerical changes. Let’s see below example:

One important thing to note is that all the changes are compared to the value in 2017, rather than being year over year comparisons. It’s crucial to be cautious in this area, while based on our experience with numerous SHL line chart questions, the changes are typically relative to the same initial value. With this in mind, the above question is easy to solve:

  • 2018: 20*105%=21
  • 2019: 20*115%=23
  • 2020: 20*85%=17
  • 2021: 20*90%=18
  • 2022: 20*110%=22
